As is with all Esri Story Maps, the presentation is in form of a narrative of what is COVID-19, how the disease spread, the previous similar cases reported. Mapping the Novel Coronavirus Outbreak is a Story Map project from Esri. At the front end, HERE used React Web application framework, HERE’s Javascript Map API, while backend data access comes from Data Hub API by HERE. The map then queries from the Data hub space and presents the map. The data is pulled from the JHU Github and DXY which is pushed into Data Hub space using the HERE Javascript API. If you are looking for a specific city, you can also navigate using the autocomplete search box. A user can select any of the bubbles on the map either by selecting it directly on the map (tapping if you are on mobile) or by selecting the corresponding card in the sidebar. There is also a time slider to get a snapshot of the spread of the virus daywise since January 23, 2020. While one can explore these numbers by country, in the case of China, the data is available by province. This map created by HERE Technologies shows the near real-time status based on data from the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University and DXY.
